Screen Printing Machine
Screen Printing is a time-tested and reliable printing method known for delivering vibrant, durable, and high-quality prints. The process uses a fine mesh screen and stencil to transfer ink onto a chosen surface (substrate) such as fabric, paper, plastic, glass, or metal. Because of its versatility and long-lasting results, screen printing continues to be one of the most important techniques in the printing industry today.
How Screen Printing Works
- Preparing the Screen - A fine mesh (traditionally silk, but now mostly polyester or nylon) is stretched tightly over a frame. The entire screen is then coated with a light-sensitive emulsion that will later form the stencil.
- Creating the Stencil – The design is first printed on a transparent film, which is placed on top of the emulsion-coated screen and exposed to UV light. The exposed areas of the emulsion harden, while the covered areas remain soft. These soft areas are washed away with water, leaving open mesh sections that form the stencil—the areas through which the ink will pass.
- Setting Up for Printing –The prepared screen is mounted on a printing press. The material to be printed, such as a T-shirt, sheet of paper, or other substrate, is carefully positioned underneath the screen.
- Applying the Ink – Ink is placed at the top of the screen. A squeegee is pulled across, pressing the ink through the open areas of the stencil onto the substrate. Only the stencil sections allow ink to pass, while the rest of the screen blocks it.
- Curing / Drying – Once the design is transferred, the printed item is dried or cured using heat. This can be done with a flash dryer, conveyor dryer, or even simple air drying. The process ensures that the ink bonds permanently to the surface.
- Finishing – After printing, the screen can be cleaned and the emulsion removed for reuse with new designs, or it can be stored for repeat jobs using the same artwork.
